Shintax Vaccine Addition
The Shingrix vaccine, also referred to as the shingles vaccine, will be added to preventive benefits on April 1, 2018. This is an added benefit that is very effective for those over 50 and will protect against both shingles and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), the most common complication from shingles.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises healthy adults 50 years and older to get two doses of Shingrix, separated by 2 to 6 months. The Shingrix vaccine should be administered even if in the past the individual had shingles, received Zostavax or is are not sure if he/she had chickenpox.
For eligible members, coverage for the Shingrix vaccine at no cost share is available in network through most Physician’s offices, Urgent care centers, National convenience care clinics*, MinuteClinic® located in CVS®, Target® and Longs Drugs, Walgreens® Healthcare Clinic, RediClinic® located in Rite Aid® and H-E-B® ,The Little Clinic® located in Kroger® , and Walmart® Care Clinic.
Tamiflu Coverage Status Change
Flu season is always rough and a flu shot is the best way to protect one’s health. However, getting a flu shot does not mean that you will not get the flu it is only a preventative measure.
UnitedHealtcare states, ”Due to the shortage of the generic anti-flu medicine, oseltamivir, and the severity of the influenza season, UnitedHealthcare is proactively responding by approving to process the brand version, Tamiflu, as a single-source brand, effective immediately.”
