06 Feb Anthem Cyber Attack Update
The following information was provided by Anthem.
Current and Previous Anthem Members Could Be Impacted
Anthem has reported their systems were compromised recently by outside hackers. Initial research shows that the hackers had access to information on a significant number of consumers, both past and present.
Details released to date indicate the cyber attackers accessed member names, health identification (ID) numbers, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses and employment information, including income data. At this point, the investigation does not indicate that credit card information or confidential health information was accessed.
Since the discovery of the issue, Anthem has been working to identify impacted members and groups. They will, as required by law, be notifying any members they find have been victims of this attack. At this time, they are not aware of any fraud that has occurred as a result of this incident, but all impacted members will be enrolled in identity repair services.
Additionally, the following information was released directly from Anthem:
- On January 29, 2015, we determined that we were the victim of a sophisticated cyber-attack. We immediately notified federal law enforcement officials and shared the indicators of compromise with the HITRUST C3 (Cyber Threat Intelligence and Incident Coordination Center).
- In addition to member data, Anthem has learned that Anthem associate network IDs and passwords were contained among the files that were accessed. Anthem has taken immediate action to lock down external points of entry to its network.
- At this time, it does not appear that any additional systems or databases were compromised.

- Anthem has created a hotline for consumers to call for additional information: 1-877-263-7995.
